Alicia Keys’ We Are Here movement, along with mic.com produced a series of short videos commenting on unjust murders of the black community by police.
“23 Ways You Could Be Killed if You Are Black in America” went viral in 2016, however, the response was mixed. The video is seen as quite controversial, as the comment section is filled with individuals claiming that the information was false, and that the individuals murdered brought it upon themselves through their actions.
“Mothers of the Movement” revolves around the mothers whose children had been murdered due to gun violence. These mothers appear in the video where they discuss the impacts that their children’s deaths’ had on their lives. This gives audiences the perspective that these individuals who were brutally murdered had lives and families that were not previously displayed. The video humanizes the victims, showing that they were real people rather than just news stories.
