“Glory” is a song written for Selma; a film about the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965, which led to the Voting Rights Act. The song itself, performed by John Legend and Common has been declared an anthem for Black Lives Matter, as it speaks to a message of power and resurgence. After the song won an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2015, John Legend took the time to discuss how, even though the film follows events of the past, it is still relevant now. He stated that the struggle for justice remains ongoing, and that the fight for equality is not yet over. Although he did not refer to the Black Lives Matter movement, many have adapted their song to be a symbol of their freedom.
